Community Outreach and Community Garden Coordinators (2024)

Are you outgoing, enthusiastic, and have a spark for community engagement? Parkdale Cromdale Community League is currently hiring two Coordinators for the purpose of community strengthening and engagement. These positions are funded by the Canadian Summer Jobs Grant and are intended to provide youth (30 years of age and under) experience in community programs and development related fields. 

Both positions will overlap and work together but with distinct lead roles as outlined below.

      

Community Outreach Coordinator:

The Community Outreach Coordinator will work to make connections with and engage residents in the Parkdale and Cromdale neighbourhoods. They will use various outreach and communication strategies to reach residents and help them connect with existing community league programming and events. The outreach position will also provide programming to kids in the area, and assist with other programs and events. They will actively promote community league activities through social media, digital and printed materials, and they will encourage and facilitate area residents to connect with each other through block parties and other programming made available at the Hall. They will manage and create resources for   neighborhood connections. They will also provide assistance to the Community Garden Coordinator in their daily roles, and complete other tasks as assigned. 


Community Garden Coordinator:

The community garden position will act as the main contact and coordinator for the Grower’s Dozen Community Gardens. They will assist with cleaning and maintaining the outdoor community garden spaces and the community league grounds. This may include rental of gardens, signage, organizing yard & garden clean up, set up, watering schedule, advertising, and garden events, etc. Daily tasks will include watering front flower gardens, mowing grass, raking leaves and acquiring supplies for grounds and garden. This person will also be required to work with volunteers to assist with the garden operation and other programming. They will also identify programming ideas related to gardening and outdoor activities to connect neighbors and develop a better understanding of gardening. They will also provide assistance to the Community Outreach Coordinator in their daily roles, and complete other tasks as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum High School education

  • Must be aged 15 to 30 years of age to apply in accordance with Canada Summer Jobs Grant 

  • Must have reliable transportation to get to and from work (i.e. vehicle, public transit, etc.). On site parking is available.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to follow direction and work independently

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse community members with varied needs

  • Knowledge of office applications, social media, and the Parkdale Cromdale community

  • Responsible and reliable

  • Good sense of community development and teamwork

  • In good physical shape to provide outdoor activities requiring lifting and yard work

  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.)

Hourly pay $16/hr

Hours: Contract position with flexible hours, 40 hrs per week for a 16 week duration
